Deep in the forest, surrounded by over-mossed trees and fungi, A Fae folk man and his daughter made their way home after a long foraging trip. He was insistent that she learned how to harvest herbs, and guide the snail, and fight off the beetles that cross their path, but she had always been too afraid.
As the two made their way into the deepest part of the forest, the girl began to notice the bones that line their path. How many Fae folk had perished trying to venture through these woods? Did they slip and fall? Get slain by the beetles? Eat poison lichen? The girl worried more and more with each passing bone. She held onto her dad tight.
“What’s wrong?” The man asked. She worried that he would scold her for fearing for the worst. But maybe this time was justified.
“Dad?” She asked.
“Mhmm?”
“Those bones…Do you think they’re from Fae Folk?” She asked.
“Maybe. But we can’t be sure.” He said.
She squeezed her eyes shut. She imagined home, and Papa, and the delicious meals the three of them would make together every night.
“But it’ll be okay. I’ll keep you safe.” the man sighed the long sigh that he always did.
